My Thoughts:
Flip the script and dive into this emotional reverse age gap! Sunny (Sandra) has experienced a lot of loss in her life. She’s also longing to become a mother, especially since being a single foster mom didn’t work out. Even though her parents have passed away, Sunny has the support of the Duke family — the family of her high school/college sweetheart — but she doesn’t want to impose any more than she already has. She’s lived a life full of pitiful looks and managed to become a successful salon/spa owner, but still harbors a bit of insecurity. Especially when it comes to people thinking she’s not over Sam Duke. I understand how she worries about the town gossiping over her choices to become a mother and her potential choice of Ian as the father. I adore her positive, sunny outlook on everything and her 1-hour rule for being upset over something.
Ian Duke, the youngest of the Duke brothers, has been keeping a secret from everyone – he’s harbored a crush on Sunny that started back when she was dating Sam. Because of his career as a surgeon, Ian has mastered compartmentalizing things and been able to keep his feelings for Sunny under control. But once he makes the initial offer to help her have a child, his rationale shifts. Underneath the persona he’s given himself, Ian is full of love, all heart, and such a giving man. I swooned at his choice of necklace for Sunny!
Both characters are stubborn and set in their ways, but their transformation is absolutely brilliant and makes for an excellent read that I couldn’t put down. The steam is perfectly balanced with plenty of growing moments and a few twists that pull everything together in the end.
