My Thoughts:

DiAnn Mills has a phenomenal gift for giving us books that stick to your bones. She doesn’t miss a beat when creating a deep, complex story that gives us everything down to the smallest detail. This book invokes each of the five senses, placing you in the middle of the action as if you’re an onlooker into the storyline. Consider it a fully-immersive experience and prepare to do nothing but read until you’re at the final word!

In this book, we’re whisked into Houston, following FBI Special Agents (former/current) partners, Risa and Gage. They work for the Violent Crimes Against Children Division which pulls my mama heart into the story even moreso. Risa has experienced somewhat of a loss when it comes to her younger brother thanks to his personal struggles. She gets a bit of hope that quickly vanishes when he’s killed in an intentional hit-and-run that was actually meant to kill her. Gage is currently working on a case involving illegal adoption rings and soon, they find a chilling discovery of the two being related.

The duo has personalities that balance out the other – Risa is a bit more of a fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants type while Gage is more methodical in his approach. But for them, it works! It makes their romantic relationship feel more authentic and adds another level to the storyline that keeps your heart invested along with your mind. It’s a soft touch, but still worthy of noting!

If you’re looking for a book that gets your heart and mind working overtime, this is the perfect read for you!
