They used to call me one of the greatest baseball pitchers of all time.

Now someone is about to call me ‘Dad.’

Losing my major league baseball career led me back to my hometown with a chip on my shoulder and no one to blame but myself.

And even though I reluctantly just agreed to help coach the high school baseball team, my life felt flat.

But when my crush from high school tells me she’s pregnant after one hot night together, my dull life from before becomes anything less than boring.

Unfortunately, the way I found out was after her teenage son broke into my automotive repair business, making our relationship even more complicated.

Scottie Daniels has always been the girl that got away.

But now that she’s having my kid, the dream of a family with my dream girl becomes the only thing I can focus on.

Can I persuade her to give us a chance at having a family?

Can I get her son to let me in too?

And can I also convince Scottie that sometimes you fall—but you can fall into the right place at the right time with the right man when it counts?

“Sometimes, when you fall, the right person will be there to pick you up and guide you to your next adventure – the one you were meant to take all along.”

This series continuously grows and is creating a network of characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. Although each book can be a standalone, I highly recommend starting at the beginning so that you can discover the powerful emotions that come out through their interactions with one another.

And then you’ll come to Grady and Scottie — and be blown away at their incredible love. I loved that we got to see a flashback to when they were in high school and felt all of those roots that they were creating together and didn’t even know it. But they both had dreams related to ball and went separate ways.

Scottie is treading water when she reconnects with Grady and believes that she’s living life the best way she can for her son, Chase. Alone and away from his father. When she lets her hair down with Grady for one night, it starts an unexpected connection that is absolutely addictive to read and/or listen to! I couldn’t get enough of these two and ended up doing a re-read as soon as I finished. I wasn’t ready to leave them!

I love how Grady was subconsciously waiting for Scottie without realizing it. He’d been avoiding dating and barely even looked at other women. But when she returns and he learns that they’re having a baby, he was ALL in. The man was an absolute pure blessing for her and Chase, ensuring that he was helping them both trust that he wasn’t going to be like her ex.

“I’m sure as f*ck not calling you by another man’s name when you’re carrying my baby.”

SWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON! He didn’t shy away when things got hard – especially Scottie’s mood swings due to pregnancy. And when it came to Chase, he was willing to deal with the attitude and issues to get down to the boy’s heart. Watching Chase come alive thanks to Grady was beautiful and one of my favorite parts of their story.

The preface we get to see for Parker is making me extremely impatient for his story. I know it’s going to be good with all that angst he has built up inside.

About the Author | Harlow James

Harlow James is a pen name I use to protect my identity as a high school teacher. Keeping those two roles in my life separate is necessary, but also fun! It’s like a live two lives, and anonymity gives me the opportunity to be bold and take risks in my stories.

I stumbled upon romance novels in 2018 when I picked up Driven by Kristy Bromberg, and I was obsessed. I had just lost my grandmother too, so reading offered me an escape from reality and a chance to grieve on my own terms.

About a year later, I got an idea for my own book and started writing. I researched self-publishing and jumped in with both feet. I had no idea what I was doing!

But now I’ve built a business and hobby that I LOVE! I have an outlet that’s just for me. When I write, I’m not a mom, a wife, or a teacher…I’m a woman who gets to tell stories that no one else can.

My books are the perfect blend of heartwarming moments, full-bellied laughs, and PLENTY of steam to melt your Kindles 😉 And there are always elements of me sprinkled in to every character and story that I write.

When I’m not writing you can find me reading or spending time in my kitchen. I love to cook and feed my family and friends. Otherwise, you can find me watching comedy specials with my husband, camping with our kids, or taking naps. I live for naps 😉
