I have read all of Catherine’s work and love all of them, but this one felt more personal. Almost as though we were getting another glimpse of Catherine using her own qualities for our heroine, Ridley. It made me love this story more than I could imagine!
Ridley losing her twin sister is absolutely TRAGIC! I was in tears from the get-go! But reading about how she turns that into a determination to get answers while simultaneously helping others is INCREDIBLE! As a true crime podcaster, she gets mixed reactions from people – especially law enforcement. It’s understandable as small towns often have such a close-knit community that discussing a case is similar to reopening an old wound. I love her grit, sass, and ability to make most people feel at ease and share information with her. She’s such a true asset!
Colt is shouldering a lot of grief, pain, and guilt of his own. His sister survived, but knowing that the perpetrator is still lurking out there keeps him on edge. It’s built up a wall that is nearly impenetrable – at least until Ridley pulls into town. Watching him fall was an absolute delight!
I had my suspicions from the very start and changed them as I continued reading, but then I was hoodwinked! I’m hoping that some of the vibes I was picking up on will give secondary characters future books, too. The heat was a delicious addition that helped spice things up between the fun banter!
