#2025AuthorFeature

In early 2024, I stumbled upon an Instagram post that featured an intro about a new series about a family and a bourbon distillery. Living in whiskey country (home of a popular whiskey brand), this immediately caught my attention. After the novell and first book, I was hooked! Walker Rose earned a spot on my physical bookshelf for all of her gorgeous titles.

But before I continue on with singing her praises in an attempt to persuade you to read her books, let me introduce Walker Rose to you! She is living the dream in her own slice of paradise where she enjoys colorful sunsets from her rocking chair while working. Her very own romance hero, Mr. Rose, makes her heart happy, along with a few little rosebuds that she has running around. A few of those rosebuds are blossoming into full grown flowers, too! Her family likes to keep things interesting with cats and dogs, as well as an assortment of other critters that roam through their yard. Hopefully the mountain lions stay away!

When I started my 2025 Author Features, I knew I HAD to include Walker Rose. If you love small town romance as much as I do, you will want to get your hands on her books sooner rather than later!

Check out my interview with Walker Rose:

If you could spend a day with one of your characters, who would it be, and what would you do together?

I’d love to hang out with Mae Bailey for a day. She’s so calming and comforting, and after raising all those kids, she’s got to have a wicked sense of humor.

What’s the strangest or most surprising thing you’ve had to research for a book?

My editor loves bourbon and she questioned a mocktail as being a virgin mule and not a virgin mimosa. So I had to research the difference between ginger ale and ginger beer, and depending on how each is made, there might not be a lot of difference. (Mules have ginger beer.)

Do you have any quirky writing habits or rituals that help you get into the creative zone?

I have no quirky pre-writing habits, but I have to finish some short tasks and catch up on social media. Then I mindlessly scroll for a while before I can transition into my story.

If your latest book were made into a movie, who would you cast as the main characters?

I think the new Superman, David Corenswet, would make a great Tenor Bailey, and Hailee Steinfeld would be a perfect Ruby.

What’s the most unexpected place or situation where inspiration for a story has struck you?

I came up with the idea for Bourbon Lullaby and the whole Bourbon Canyon series while watching Shazam! Fury of the Gods in the theater. That’s the danger of letting my mind wander. So many ideas!

Which book (not your own) has had the most profound impact on your life or career, and why?

You are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero was the first book to help me see money differently and gave me the freedom to pursue earning money without the shame.

Do you hide any Easter eggs in your books that only your most devoted readers might catch?

I do, and then I forget them. So if I had to come up with Easter eggs I’ve written, I’d fail. I can’t recall a one.

If you could co-author a book with any writer, living or dead, who would it be and what genre would you write?

I love working on my own timeline so much that I don’t know if I’d want to try. I’m envious of cowriters. This can be such a solo career, and I bet it’s fun to plot a story together.

What’s one piece of writing advice you received that changed how you approach your craft?

Everything with the Clifton Strengths has helped me so much. Learning about those from Becca Syme helped me embrace my intuitive writing style, especially when she reassures writers that thinking is writing for many of us. Now I can tell when I need to step away from the laptop and let my mind wander to develop more of the story.

If you weren’t an author, what other creative pursuit do you think you’d explore?

I’d love to be a cover artist. I’ve dabbled in it, but I just don’t have the time to get good at Photoshop and excellent at the skills needed. I reeeaaalllly enjoyed it though, and I love making graphics. Some people are naturals and once they get the tech down, they’re unstoppable. I would have to learn the art, the tech skills, and practice, practice, practice. Maybe in the future I can dabble more.
