Salt Love by Marika Ray Cover

What do you do when you find out your husband’s cheating on you, your aunt just passed away in Florida, and your boss gave the promotion to your work nemesis, so you threaten him with bodily harm in the middle of a board meeting?

Well, after getting escorted out of the building by security, I fly straight to Sunshine Key to deal with my aunt’s estate. There, I meet my new neighbor, a gorgeous, surly man with all the charm of a rusty anchor, but at least he’s easy on the eyes when he’s not scowling. My aunt leaves her boat club to the two of us. Fifty-fifty ownership despite the fact I know absolutely nothing about boats. Or Florida. The will declares I have to live on this tiny key one full year if I want to inherit the oceanfront house too.

As I reclaim who I am as a woman, as well as discover which pieces of my fractured life I want to glue back together, Dec Boggs starts to show a sensitive, protective side under that crusty exterior that has my battered heart beating again. But the man is hiding from his own past and not even a string of boat rides, gator encounters, and sultry nights below the palm trees can get him to open up. More secrets get revealed with each day I spend in Florida and old family wounds are exposed.

Should I abandon ship after the year is up? Or will this salty life in the Sunshine State become a salt love?

Salt Love is a summer romantic comedy romp from west coast to east, featuring a down-on-her-luck woman with a firm grip on her hair straightener now living in the world’s worst humidity. Get swept away with the reclusive man next door with secrets galore, a meddling father, and an affinity for kissing his new neighbor. No hair was actually harmed in the making of this RomCom and yes, they really do drive that badly in Florida. This book of self discovery and second chances at love stands alone and ends with a happily every after with just the right sprinkling of flamingos.

Oh my goodness! What a FUN read to kick off the summer. There are so many quirks, laughs, and spicy moments that I felt like I got the absolute best of everything I love to read wrapped up in the pages. Put this one in your beach bag!

Kenna starts out having a really bad day. No, scratch that — a HORRENDOUS day! The emotions are high and yet relatable. You will want to cry with her, scream when she screams, and implode your own career. Seeing her transform from a California girl to a Salt Life gal was the best part of it all. Everything gets a makeover – her physical looks, the house, business, and even her heart.

Dec is a grumpy man with a secret. He’s been hiding out in Sunshine Key with his dad and best friend. He’s maintained his single status for the past decade, claiming it’s his forever-life. But when Kenna shows up, she upends his life – in the best of ways. Underneath the grump is a cinnamon roll with eyes only for one woman. His heart knows long before his head and I absolutely loved seeing the two catch up with each other.

The supporting cast is full of fun — even Mona’s quirky, lackadaisical personality – all help make this a fully-submersive read. I hope we get to see more books of these characters!

My favorite quote:

“We were all sunflowers and you were the sun. We could tell we were in the presence of someone special.”
