I only dated one person my entire life—my brother’s best friend. After our relationship of over a decade, he didn’t just break up with me…he moved away, leaving me behind to tend to my broken heart.
Once I moved from denial to utter sadness to sheer anger, I settled on indifference and decided I was entitled to a rebound. You know, for a little self-esteem boost before considering another serious relationship.
A man in town for a temporary job assignment could be just what I need. He was also recovering from a bad breakup after a long-term relationship. I thought maybe we could learn what it would be like to date someone new again… together.
It only took a short period of time before it felt like he and I could last longer than three months.
But unfortunately, a rebound isn’t meant to be a forever.

This was a first book of this author’s that I’ve read — but it certainly won’t be the last! I enjoyed the dynamics of the characters, especially in regard to their families. I would have loved a little bit longer of an enemies-to-lovers period for Finn and Emmett, but overall, I was satisfied with how they came together.
Both Finn and Em are coming out of toxic previous relationships. Finn’s experience is deeper because along with her brothers, they were all a super close friend group. It shook up the dynamics of who they had become over the past decade. Finn’s brother, Duff, was awful about the whole situation and a bit blind. I loved that he was imperfect and took far too long to see the truth of his “friend” and how Finn deserved better. It made him more human. Bregan is a true sweet soul and I hope we get to see him find someone absolutely perfect for him!
Em and his sister have a wonderful relationship and I love how she encourages and supports him. She’s not afraid to say how she feels and stands up for Em without hesitation. It was quick to see that Em was falling for Finn, despite their previous hangups about their prior partners. I thought their interactions were paced well, growing and strengthening their feelings at a comfortable pace.
I ended up buying the first book and this one from the series and can’t wait to dive into it to anxiously await the next book in the series. The growth of the characters all felt relatable and set the stage for upcoming wonderful books!
