Where murder mystery and family saga collide—with deceptively charming Charleston as a backdrop.

As a middle child, Boston native Kathryn Moore has always struggled to fit into her nouveau riche family and would rather do anything than carry on with the family business. Her aspirations lie in more artistic pursuits: to become a writer like her uncle, which strains her already turbulent relationship with her mother.

After Kathryn’s uncle, her mentor and confidante, dies tragically in a car accident, she learns he has bequeathed his Charleston home to her, and life changes in ways she never could have predicted. But was his untimely death an accident or is the truth more sinister than that?

As she grapples with his death and delves deeper into the circumstances surrounding it, Kathryn struggles with visions she has little control over. She can’t help but wonder if the act of logging them into her notebook along with her story ideas etches the visions into reality. Could she be responsible for all the misery left in her wake—including her uncle’s death?

I love a book that forces me to think outside the box. To wonder “What if?”. And push my boundaries for what I know to be true. Along with the family drama, I quickly found myself absorbed into the backdrop of Charleston and mystery that held a slight paranormal aspect.

From the very start, I felt like this book is a brainteaser, full of secrets and hidden aspects that unfold at an excellent pace. Each character is multi-faceted, providing a variety of personalities that pull the setting and situation together. Told through Kathryn’s point of view, you get a firsthand look at the chaos and personally, I couldn’t help but enjoy being right in the thick of it.

Aptly titled, Deadly Ripples does justice to the name. Each ripple has an effect on the one before it, the one after, and they continue to grow. Absolutely another riveting read….can’t wait for her next book!

About the Author | Penny Goetjen

National multi-award-winning author Penny Goetjen writes mysteries and suspense novels where the settings are so colorful they become characters in their own right. A self-proclaimed eccentric, she enjoys the serenity of writing with the allure of flickering candlelight often late into the evening, the chaos while perched at a hi-top table in a local coffee shop with half the caffeinated world walking by, and the romance of strolling in a long flowy skirt while observing the world and collecting characters. Seven published novels in and her husband still sleeps with one eye open.
