This book brings so much to the table and builds the entire cast of characters and scenery right around you like a hug. Catherine Cowles guides you through tragic backstories for both Sutton and Cope, bringing you to an incredible conclusion that keeps you on your toes!
Cope is our hockey hero — and I love that he takes some time to open up and reveal what he’s been carrying around on his shoulders for years. He’s a bit of a tough guy in the hockey world, but I love seeing how he takes to working with the kids so well – especially Luca! He’s still very competitive, yet it helps him grow from his past into a new man and hockey player.
Sutton is the sweetest, most hardworking single mom! We see the ugly side of how she’s treated because of it (the landlord?! UGH!) and her ex and those he’s indebted to are horrible. Through it all, though, she tries to keep a positive mindset for Luca and makes a way for him to do what his heart desires the most. It’s a true testament to what any good parent does and I love how beautifully that is captured all throughout the book.
Together, Cope and Sutton find their way, slowly gaining trust and faith in the other to share their secrets and build a future together. There are some extremely difficult moments that make their time together even more special as my heart ached for what they had to endure at the hands of monsters.
I couldn’t get enough of this book! And I am completely obsessed with Lolli — her antics are the BEST! Not knowing what is going to come out of her mouth keeps me on my toes and I LOVE it!
