Some promises were never meant to be broken…
Lucy Milburne had her heart broken a decade ago. After leaving her small hometown to escape the painful memories, she has built a new life in the big city as a second-grade teacher. With a boyfriend and possibly the best friend in the world, everything seems perfect—until it all comes crashing down during summer break. Left with no other choice, Lucy returns to Port-Cartier to mend her broken heart and face the past she thought she had left behind.
Luke Everett broke the heart of the only woman he ever loved ten years ago, but he has never stopped loving her. Each day without her has been torture, but he accepted his fate long ago. He never expected to see her again, but now that she’s back in Port-Cartier, he knows he can’t let her go again.
Ten years have passed, and their lives can’t be any more different. But, when an unfortunate accident forces Lucy to stay in the town longer than she intended, old flames spark back up. They both realize some promises were never meant to be broken. The only question is, can they find a second chance at love?

This was such a wonderful surprise book that made me giddy after reading! Honestly, second chances often scare me off because of the lack of background that leads me to believe they were meant to be. But this book offers flashbacks that truly give us the best of both worlds – the past and present!
Sometimes going back home is exactly what is needed when a heart is broken. Lucy needs the time and space to work through her feelings and the hurt that she’s experienced. She’s not necessarily looking for love again — until she runs into Luke. This brings up a lot of emotion and memories that she thought she’d put to rest.
Luke is extremely sweet, has a big heart, and makes it evident that he never fully let go of Lucy. He brings a lot more to the table than their previous relationship. He helps her rediscover her roots and ties that make the town a perfect fit for her — and them.
Both characters are likeable, but I especially loved how much Lucy grew over time. Sailor is the perfect sidekick, providing laughs, fun, and a bit of sarcasm that is perfectly paced throughout. My only downfall was that I wanted a bit more story between these two, but this is definitely a book that I could see myself returning to read again when I needed something to make me feel good about love!
