Bestselling author Amy Alves delivers an enemies-to-lovers, opposites attract romantic comedy with a dash of forced proximity, plenty of “good girl” praise, a love-scorned firefighter, and the clumsy woman he loves to hate.
It was an accident, I swear. Jensen Vaughn may be the absolute worst, but I didn’t push him down those stairs.
Not intentionally, anyway.
It was supposed to be my graceless butt lying in a broken heap at the bottom of the steps.
But no, the golden boy firefighter and beloved town hero had to take the fall meant for me.
He saved me.
And now the whole town thinks I maimed him on purpose.
So despite our mutual disdain, I’m compelled to help the surly man determined to endure his recovery alone.
Fortunately for him, I’m not deterred by doors slamming in my face.
Because the physical therapist most qualified to get him back on his feet (literally) is me.
Convincing him to put aside our differences long enough for me to help with his recovery was hard.
Accidentally falling for the jerk? Stupidly easy.
The Vaughn Brothers series is a set of steamy interconnected standalone romances featuring first responder heroes and the sassy women they fall hard for.
A surly firefighter who offers good girl praise? Oh yes! Jensen has allowed his introvert tendencies to pull him into a dark place, but underneath, he has a heart of gold. With the right people, we get to see underneath those layers of protection and come to realize that he’s so much more than an overprotective jerk. I love how his family nudges him (and sometimes outright!) pushes him out of his comfort zone. It’s a caring gesture that shows how close they all are. As the more quiet, reserved twin, Jensen is often overlooked, cast aside, and ignored. But I love when he realizes how Gracie is okay with all of it. She loves him for exactly who he is.
Gracie is accident-prone by little-to-no fault of her own. Her disorder adds a big obstacle to her motor skills, but I love how determined she is to not let them stop her from living. As much as Jensen is surly, Gracie is spunky, funny, and sometimes gets carried away — and I love every bit of it. She had me laughing at her direct honesty and no holds barred to dealing with Jensen. With all of her activities, she is definitely very involved in the community and you can tell they all have quickly grown to love her.
There were moments I wanted more detail from the storyline, but overall, I loved the fun banter and laughs that this book gives! Jensen might be quiet to the general public, but when it’s him and Gracie, I got those chills at his growly praise and promises (that were always delivered on!).
I received a complimentary ARC for reviewing purposes. All opinions are my own.
