Cheyenne’s parents gave her everything – except their love. Their absence left a hole in her heart that she’s spent her whole life trying to fill. But when her friends drag her off to spend winter break in the countryside, Cheyenne skips a lonesome holiday in the bustling city she calls home and discovers the love she never knew.
Jesse Hale is a wounded soul who’s grappling with his inner demons. Ever since the tragic loss of his wife, he refuses to feel anything for another woman – until he meets Cheyenne. A heart-pumping kiss and a few desperate nights spent in each other’s arms ignites a spark between them… but sometimes sparks look a lot like red flags.
Cheyenne is worried she’s just using Jesse to fulfill her craving for affection. And Jesse is determined not to let his rough, stony heart crack. Caught between their blossoming feelings and their deep-rooted trauma, can the pair heal their wounds and kindle a love that will last? Or are they just two broken souls searching for someone to ease their loneliness?

Small towns are all I’ve know in my life. It wasn’t too much of a leap for me to absolutely fall in love with small town romances. Jeri Marie is new to me for this year, but I hope for so many more stories to be written by her as I am hooked! There are some heavy topics layered in, but goodness if that didn’t draw me in even moreso!
This is one of those books that sticks to your bones. It’s so full of emotion that you feel jumping off the page and right into your heart. I love how well the characters are written, giving readers the ability to see them come to life, develop feelings and empathy for them, while admiring the growth that they both do.
My heart ached for the pain of a lack of acknowledgement, love and support from her parents. Physical things never make up for the lack of love and affection. Her friends are true blessings in helping her find and feel that love. Then she meets Jesse – a man who was facing his own demons and the pain of losing his wife. These two have a connection and although they have a long way to heal, the way it unfolds amongst their developing feelings is incredibly captivating.
I love how different these two are, yet it seamlessly weaves these two into a more than a physical relationship. It transcends their mistaken thoughts of “using” each other and includes moments that will have you laughing, too. And even some that make you laugh because you’re crying so hard!
