Five years ago, I nearly lost everything. But there was a glimmer of hope on that darkest night. There was him—a stranger I could never forget.

Now, I’m finally getting the fresh start I’ve longed for. But when I show up to interview for a nanny position in the small mountain town, the single dad has startlingly familiar blue eyes.

Eyes that have haunted my dreams for the past five years.

Lawson Hartley is everything I know I can’t have. Older, handsome, and my boss. Not to mention the shadows in his eyes that tell me he has demons, too.

Still, he seems to understand me better than anyone I’ve ever met. So gentle and careful of my scars, yet somehow making me believe I’m stronger than I ever thought possible.

And when his lips touch mine, I’m lost.

We find what we’ve been missing in each other. But the terrors of my past aren’t done with me yet, and this time, Lawson might not be able to save me…

Each book of a CC series always carves out a special place in my heart. This one, however, has become THE book that captured my soul. From the first book, I knew Lawson’s story would be worth the wait. He was in over his head trying to keep his family, their partners, and the town safe while also raising three boys on his own. He’s such a strong man with extremely high walls to the world (beyond his loved ones). Once Hallie reenters his life, we start seeing those walls come down because it’s only her who has the power to do so.

Once Hallie is intricately woven into Lawson’s daily life with his boys, it’s an absolute masterpiece to watch unfold before your eyes. Every detail is written to capture the scene, bringing it to life before your eyes. Your senses are all on alert, feeling and absorbing every emotion that was written. Hallie and Lawson both tremendously grow and heal throughout the book but by the end, Luke is completely transformed and most of it is Hallie’s influence. Her strength pours out of her soul and straight to his. Drew and Charlie add their own unique dynamics to the mix, coming in at just the right moments. Hallie equally brings out the best of all the boys – and of course, Lawson, too.

Each time a series wraps up, I have to binge read and take the journey again. The emotions are everlasting, real, and that’s what makes for amazing books.

My heart aches to be saying goodbye to the Hartley family, yet it was absolute perfection for them. They’ll all live in my heart forever!

Favorite quotes:

“Breathe. I really don’t want to have to bury a body in the woods today. Grounds frozen. it’d be a real b*tch”

“Can’t imagine doing life without you. Not now. Hallie, you’ve ruined me. But I’d burn myself to ash over and over if it meant getting you in the end.”

“It’s you, Blue. You’re the one who brought me out of the ashes. It’s always been you.”
