Since Sutter Lake, I have been immersed in CC’s take on romantic suspense — and let me tell you, I am nowhere near my fill, so I hope to see sooooooooo many more books from her. I devoured this first book of her latest series in one afternoon. Anson and Rhodes have set the bar really high — and I can’t wait to see the places this series takes us!
I can usually place the culprit early on, but this time, I was twisted up that I didn’t see it coming. Not even a little bit! And the heat rose to a new level that had me swooning all over the place (Um!! Can we say belt scene!!??!!). Woven together, this is a book that will leave you with a hangover until the next book releases.
Anson has faced some of the darkest monsters in the world, including one that zeroed in on him personally. He fought his feelings for Rhodes, but once he gives in, GAHHHHH!! He is a hero who gives you everything you want in a book boyfriend. Rhodes has fought her own fires (literally!) and to see how she stays positive and upbeat is incredibly inspiring.
The found family aspect stuck to my ribs once I learned about what Rhodes went through. She has such a beautiful support system that includes characters I know we’ll be reading about soon. Lolli and her diamond art will provide perfectly timed laughs and the sweetness of the rescue dog, Biscuit, makes this such an amazing story.
Looking forward to everything this series has to give us! I may be ripping my heart out over and over but it’s worth every emotion wrapped up in even the tiniest details!
