A grumpy scarred veteran. A sunny wedding planner. A second chance at love?

When former Army Major Cameron Taylor comes home a hero from his deployment in the Middle East his scars run deep – both physically and emotionally. But he’s starting over, running a luxury hotel with his best friends. And Lucy Goodwin, apparently…his high school sweetheart who he’s never quite managed to forget.

There’s only one reason Lucy’s been engaged – and walked away – three times and now he’s standing right in front of her. Cameron Taylor is the man she’s never stopped loving, even when he left her “for her own good” all those years ago. There was nothing good about it, that’s for sure. Just like there’d be nothing good about trying to break down Cameron’s walls now. But that doesn’t mean she’s not tempted to try…

It’s a dreary winter season here in Tennessee and I love the escape that this book has given me to Monterey! I’ve never been to California, but thanks to the descriptive scenery, I was transported to a world of beauty. It was the perfect location for Cam and his grumpy attitude as it served as a bright light at the end of his dark tunnel. At one point and time, Cam thought he was doing right by giving Lucy up and letting her find better out in the world. His military life drastically adds a new layer of pain and torment to his life. Why not add a reunion with a woman who is the only sunshine in his life?

Lucy faced a difficult past of her own, but yet she remains sunshine-y and upbeat about everything. I love the irony of her being a wedding planner and having three failed engagements on her resume. Yet, it all makes sense once we start seeing the flame that never truly went out between her and Cameron.

These two are worth every tense moment and conflict to get to their HEA! There were several times that I found myself laughing out loud when Cameron would want to stay in his grumpy mode yet Lucy would crawl right under that barrier and give him a bit of an epiphany. Such a wonderful second chance for these two!
