Enemies to lovers gets me every time! I love the push-pull, will they or won’t they dynamic and Samantha Chase nailed this one! I have to admit at the start, I didn’t want Marcus to be the one for Billie. He was a complete jerk! But his edges were smoothed as his time throughout the book began knocking that chip off his shoulder.
Billie and Marcus were living a big life together — but it reaches a point where Billie isn’t being fulfilled by the money and physical things. Marcus becomes such a jerk about his own family and how they live while Billie is drawn back home to help take care of hers. A decade later, he shows up and rightfully gets a muffin shoved in his face because he is uptight, hateful, and absolutely uncaring.
But then Marcus finds himself having to spend more time in their hometown and with that, comes more time with Billie. Healing begins happening for the two of them. There are plenty of laughs, moments you want to grab Marcus and shake him HARD, as well as swoony moments that show you how much true love can endure.
Now I need to go back and read the whole series! I loved the side cast characters and even though I haven’t ready any previous books, I felt like this was a great standalone romance.
