Finn Hebert. Viking lumberjack. Pilot. Single dad. And my sworn enemy.

Not only is his father responsible for the demise of mine, but our families have been feuding for generations. Too bad I’m about to add a new member to both in nine months.

Because, as it turns out, I don’t hate him nearly enough. He loves my smart mouth and short fuse, and he thinks I look beautiful in oil-stained coveralls. It was supposed to be one storm-trapped night only. But one taste of forbidden fruit is never enough. Soon, we’re sneaking around, keeping our relationship a secret.

Our families may never coexist peacefully, but there are others in this small town who may be the real enemies.
And we can’t keep this secret forever.

Author’s note: Wood Riddance is a standalone full-length small-town romance featuring a persistent lumberjack pilot and the sassy mechanic who hates his guts. If you enjoy strip axe throwing, wood chopping, enemies to lovers, and nonstop banter with a dash of suspense, you will not be disappointed. And don’t worry, Clive, the mischief-making moose, makes several appearances.

My Thoughts:

I grew up in the Paul Bunyan-lumberjack-era and I’ll be the first to admit that when I read about Daphne’s upcoming series featuring lumberjacks, I was a bit hesitant. In other works, they’d never really been portrayed as, well, like THIS! After getting to know the Gagnon family via the brothers first, I knew Adele’s book would be worth the wait.

Because Adele isn’t a dainty woman like most of our heroines, I love how Daphne gives her the same insecurities and struggles. It makes her feel real and relatable. She’s put herself into a box, holding in all the negative experiences she’s had with men, others who judged her for her size/stature, and most of all, her father’s murder. And it makes unpacking all of that a fun read when you have Finn Hebert involved!

Finn has had a thing for Adele for a quite a while, but he doesn’t feel worthy of her. He has such a big heart and his intuitiveness makes him a completely swoonworthy hero! Oh, and I can’t forget how his dirty talk, pilot abilities, and fun choice of boxers add to the complete package. He’s a wonderful father to Merry and I love that even though he’s not with her mother anymore, he still maintains an adult friendship/relationship with Alicia and Mike.

It’s true that we are often our own worst enemies and both Adele and Finn take this to heart. You’ll get to see them do a lot of growing both mentally and emotionally. There is a lot to unpack with the ongoing investigation since book one, but it also gives you a chance to see Adele’s brothers experiencing their own growth and change. Such an incredible finale — one definitely worth waiting for!
