What happens when you accidentally throw a blueberry pie in your brother’s best friend’s face?
You marry him a week later for health insurance, of course.
Dreamy lumberjack Remy Gagnon is not just my brother’s best friend, he’s my new husband—thanks to my pesky gallbladder.
One year. That’s our deal. I need surgery and I need to finish my PhD, and Remy’s training to become a a professional timbersport athlete. We’re both focused on our goals, leaving no time for feelings.
Easy as pie, right?
Not exactly. Because he shows up on our fake wedding day with my favorite flowers, builds me bookcases, and he calls me his wife every chance he gets.
So when I enter us in a wife carrying contest to beat his cheating ex, all bets are off. Running through the woods with my legs wrapped around his muscular body has me thinking this marriage of convenience is anything but.
But what happens when our year is up? Could I ask “Wood You Marry Me?” for real?
Who knew that lumberjacks would become a new favorite? Apparently Daphne Elliot did — she is putting them up on the stump, then chopping them off the block with a heroine you can’t help but love, too! The first book pulled me into the family dynamics and the mystery surrounding their father’s death and the possibility of their lumber road being used to transport drugs.
Remy didn’t show us his best side in book one, but he’s on a better path, ready to prove that he’s not the screw-up that he has been showing out as to his family and friends. He’s taking responsibility for his actions and is willing to work hard and prove that he’s a valuable member of the family and company. But he has no idea how much his world is about to improve until he’s covered in blueberry pie and locking eyes with his best friend’s sister — and feeling things he shouldn’t be. His ex did a real number on him, but she didn’t destroy the most important thing of all – his heart. And he’s all in when it comes to helping Hazel get the surgery she needs, finishing her PhD, and falling in love.
Hazel wasn’t dealt an easy hand growing up. But she’s fought a tough battle and is finally in the home stretch. But this time, she has an issue that even she can’t out-smart. She’s always had a thing for Remy, but when he offers her a two-for-one chance, she isn’t sure that it’s the right thing to do. Suddenly, it’s all happening and her dreams are coming true – all thanks to a handsome lumberjack and his best friend – her brother. Her studies align with Remy and his family, in addition to her own. Despite their difficult childhood, Dylan and Hazel have come so far and I love seeing their support for one another.
I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this book! Remy and Hazel are a fun match and I adore how he immediately starts saying “you’re my wife!”. The slow build to their physical relationship is worth all the wait — it’s passionate, caring, and full of yummy heat! Their training sessions were a riot and the banter was spot on. We get a glimpse of what is to come for Adele and Finn as well as an update on Henri, Alice, and the kids. This series keeps getting better and better!
